Publishing Ethics: Doing the Right Thing — Doing Things Right
A theme of two parts — listening to scholarly communities and understanding what they need; challenging our industry to regain its confidence — raise the bar and raise standards.
This year we want to focus even more on the principles (ethics) of academic publishing. Recent announcements by the European Commission (Horizon 2020), the Dutch and German Governments will speed up the transition process from traditional publishing to Open Access and Open Science and other forms of communication.
The Full Conference will offer two main Sessions:
— Is our industry in good shape?
— Is Open Access 2020 an achievable reality?
The Pre-Conference Day (Monday, 16 January 2017) will deal with many practical open questions and expectations in times of Open Access and Open Science. On Tuesday (17) and Wednesday (18) the APE 2017 Full Conference convenes in the Leibniz Room of the Berlin-Brandenburg Academy of Sciences and Humanities at Gendarmenmarkt in Berlin. The Program is being developed by a high level Program Committee (see Committee). During November we will unveil the complete program which guarantees the usual actuality and originality.
APE 2017 is well known for offering a broad perspective, varying from the basics of academic publishing, reputation, reliable quality, reproducibility, the role of peer review, sustainability, funding, information infrastructure, open data and open science, more dot.coms to watch and further projects to discover. The APE 2017 Lecture will be given by a promiment speaker. The Closing Panel will review these two days and continue the discussion of Publishing Ethics from APE 2016 (see video on www.ape2016.eu).
There will be enough room for discussions and meetings with (new) friends and colleagues…
